The band Erode & Disappear formed in the year 2009 as a side project/outgrowth/satellite project of the band Northern Liberties. Erode & Disappear are two-thirds of Northern Liberties, which is a three piece band consisting of bass, drums, more drums, and vocals. Erode & Disappear is a two-piece band comprised of Kevin Riley, bassist of Northern Liberties on bass and occasional vocals, and Justin Duerr, vocalist/percussionist of Northern Liberties stepping behind a drumkit while also providing the bulk of the vocals/lyrics. The stripped down sound of Northern Liberties has become even more stripped down, perhaps finally stripping all the way through, into an entirely new vista of musicspace.
The band is named after the first fill-length Northern Liberties album, which was released in 2003. When Northern Liberties found itself unable to keep up with the number of requests for shows due to family obligations on the part of the drummer, Erode & Disappear was created to fill in the gaps.
Keeping stride with Northern Liberties ethos of music realization as a non-compartmentalized part of life in general, Erode & Disappear gradually and naturally found a way and a sound both apart and of its mothership band Northern Liberties. Erode & Disappear is a project designed to satiate the members desire to "rock all the way out" and to bring this philosophy of action to "the public" (however small) whenever and wherever possible. The music itself continues as always to be the ever-unfolding unknown goal, and even with many years of recording, dissecting, studying, and acting as catalysts for this force, we are no closer to understanding it. Thus our mission continues, and we continue to rock out.
As of August AD 2011, Erode & Disappear have undertaken one full US tour with our friends Stinking Lizaveta, and also several shorter sojourns up and down the east coast. We have self-released one full-length vinyl record, "Scythian Lamb", a split cassette with Signals (SGNLS), a split 7" with Peter And Craig, a cassette tape split with Buck Gooter, and a four way split CD. We have no intention to stop....
